What factors increase the risk of female infertility?
Age - Women over 35 have a higher risk of having fertility issues, due to a lower number of eggs and an increased likelihood of eggs with an abnormal number of chromosomes.
Smoking can damage the cervix and fallopian tubes, increase the risk of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy, age the ovaries and deplete eggs prematurely.
Weight - Obesity or being significantly underweight may affect normal ovulation.
Sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, can damage the fallopian tubes.
Alcohol - Excess intake increases the risk of infertility.
Autoimmune disorders e.g. lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and thyroid gland conditions.
